Looking ahead

Wednesday, March 31st, 2004

My new assistant, Zeeshan, is always looking ahead. On Wednesdays, he says, “It’s already Friday!” and I say, “No it’s not! It’s only Wednesday! And there’s lots of stuff left to do before Friday, so get to it!” Yeah. I’m a slave driver. The other day he said, “It’s already April!” and I said, “No it’s not!” etc. I must admit that this bothers me profoundly. How can you enjoy the present when you’re living in the future?

Ratings

Tuesday, March 30th, 2004

Wow. The ratings for my journal have plummeted. Have I lost my edge? My vision? I’m panicking! Sweeps week is coming up, and I need viewership! I guess I’ll need more sex, violence, swearing, and a cliffhanger ending.

Accomplishment

Wow I got a lot of stuff done today. I got up and started taking photos of glassware. That went pretty well. I still have lots more to do, but I’ve gotten into a good shooting groove with this stuff.

After shooting for a while I went to the stage falls workshop at some martial arts place. We had a karate teacher show us how to fall safely. It was very interesting, and a great workout. We fell and got up about 250 times in that hour, and my abs are telling me all about it. :P Falling is not too hard. Land on bum, back, slap hands on ground to keep your head from banging down. That’s basically all you have to remember. :) He showed us some cool front roll things too, and how to get up quickly after falling.

I did more shooting this afternoon, then went to dad’s for dinner. I finished shooting for the day after dinner, and then started preparing the photos in the computer. I got most of them done, and posted into a gallery for the client. I decided to be ambitious and work on some requests by my headshot client from earlier this week. I finished those, and still felt good, so I posted all of the Staircase staff photos in their own gallery too.

Now I’m ready for sleeping. :)

Procrastination 101

Sunday, March 28th, 2004

So, I’ve got all these glassware photos I’m supposed to be doing this weekend. On Friday afternoon, it seemed like it was going to be a nice, easy weekend job. I met with the artist who makes them, and she gave me a huge crate of stuff to photograph. I figured I’d do them on Saturday because of the enormous lack of stuff I had booked that day. Well, did I do that? No. I spent the day sleeping, eating, playing XBox, playing the gridlock game that Hesi addicted me to, checking out the #photography channel on IRC where I haven’t been since last year, and then finished the evening by going out to an improv jam that actually didn’t happen because of the film festival at the theatre. Upon finding out there was no jam happening, I completely failed to say, “Oh well, I guess this means I can go home and finish my work.” Instead, I went out to eat unhealthy food even though I wasn’t hungry.

I did manage to get two photos of a martini glass done, but that’s by far too little work to show for an entire day dedicated to shooting. I think my brain is rebelling against everything I’ve put it through this month, and has decided to become useless. Unfortunately, it’s dragging the rest of me with it. Oh well. Today’s another day. I’ll try to get some shooting done in between other things today.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

Saturday, March 27th, 2004

Hesi and I saw this last night. Several people had recommended it to us, so we picked it despite its dumb name. I’m glad we watched it. Even the title eventually made sense. I enjoyed seeing quality acting from Jim Carrey. He was on the verge of it in the Truman Show, and he really shined in this one. Kate Winslet was good too, but her hair stole the show. The theme of the movie was the unstoppable force of romantic chemistry. The ending was predictably Hollywood saccharine sweet–emotional and satisfying–but I think that was exactly what I was in the mood for after a challenging week. :)

Followup question: If you could have the power to completely forget everything about someone, would you do it?
