Slipping

skinny dad cute mom Ok, I’ve gotten pretty bad at this journal-updating thing. Life has been very eventful but uninteresting lately. Lots of shows, photography and work happening since the last time I wrote in here. However, none of it was any different from what usually happens. Just read old entries from my journal, and that should pretty much tell you the story.

So far, I have two shoots booked this week. I’m shooting Scrambled Leggs tonight. They’re coming to Hamilton for the shoot, so no more lugging equipment to Toronto for them. And tomorrow night I’m shooting a continuation of my Femme Elemental series with a new model, Kamellia.

Anyway, the real reason I decided to make this entry is because I got a cool photo in email from my cousin Susie in Alberta. She somehow has these wedding photos of my mom and dad. I thought I’d share them. Does my dad look like me? I think he was younger than me when they got married. And much skinnier. :| My mom was pretty.

It was everything

I had a good day. It was busy, but good. I had a few decent appointments in the morning for work, and they went well. I fixed some stuff, and made people happy about their computers again.

Then I had my meeting with the three women who run Gallery 252, which is in an Anglican cathedral on James Street. They wanted to see some of my photography for possible display in the gallery. I was a little nervous about content restrictions for a gallery in a church, but it didn’t seem to matter. They were really impressed with my photos, and are willing to show any photos I choose. So now, I’m preparing for a show in October. Mainly, I need a title and a description of the show. The opening night reception will be on October 1, and the show will run for the entire month. I’m pretty excited about it. I need more photos though. There’s room for at least 25, and the choosing will be difficult. I’m planning to expand my Femme Elemental series for sure. I lined up a shoot today with one model, and I have another girl in mind for the series as well. I’ll also be shooting some more kitchen-themed shots.

After that, more boring computer-related work and banking, which seemed to fly by. Zoom. :sprint:

I played in the Counterpoint/Theatresports show tonight. It seems like it’s been a long time since I was on stage, even though I know that’s not the case. At the most it’s been a couple of weeks. I personally didn’t feel like I was too strong tonight, but it was still fun. The scenes were a little wild and weird. They tended to lean towards dark themes. One cool thing was that I got to play with Nada for the first time. She’s a new player, and I always feel energized by playing with new people.

After the show, Nada, Fiona, KPR and I went for some drinks in Hess Village. It was my first patio evening of the year. The first patio drinks of the year always spell the beginning of summer for me. I have a good feeling about this summer. I think it’s gonna be a great one. :) And Jen’s coming very soon!

Follow your money

I was looking at a $10 bill I had in my petty cash drawer for the business. Someone had written “Follow this bill at www.whereswilly.com” on it. I checked it out. The site is pretty cool. You can enter serial numbered bills into the system, and then track their location as they travel around. Anyway, here’s my $10. :)

Personal comparisons

I’ve come to the conclusion that a lot of unhappiness derives from comparing yourself to others. People get upset about not being “as popular” or “as fit” or “as tall” or “as rich” as other people. Wouldn’t life be easier and more satisfying if we could just be happy with what we have, instead of wanting what others have? If we see a need for self-improvement, can we improve in relation to ourselves rather than in relation to others? Is this even possible? I hope so.

Portfolio

Tuesday, May 25th, 2004

I spent a good part of the night reorganizing my online photography portfolio. I originally wanted to get my print portfolio in order, because I’ve got a meeting on Thursday to talk about a possible exhibition. Anyway, I started looking through the prints I have, and they’re mostly portraits, which are not really suitable for exhibition. I’ll be showing my expressive and conceptual photos to the exhibition people. I’ll probably show some nature photos too. Using the online portfolio for this is not ideal, but I haven’t got time to make prints by Thursday, so it will have to do. There’s another gallery I want to approach about doing an exhibition, but they want slides. :| Who uses slides?!
