Ok I think I had mentioned how poor my Internet connection is in Shanghai, but let me give you a more specific example. This morning I was trying to upload yesterday’s blog entry which has a lot of pictures. To be safe, I used the encrypted VPN tunnel to Montreal because my blog is not well-liked by the Chinese government. It was so slow it was ridiculous. It took me about 5 minutes per 100k photo to upload. This was going to take forever. Then I decided to remote connect to the network share in Montreal and copy the photos to that. Afterwards, I could upload them to the blog by remote accessing my desktop computer in Montreal. This was working fine, and I got the photos uploaded, but soon after, the internet cut out entirely. Two hours of work and nothing to show for it. Well, I’ll try again tonight when I get to Guangzhou where my homestay host has wifi.
