I was at the Art Gallery of Ontario today and spent some time with one of my favorite paintings, Mountains in Snow by Group of Seven artist Lawren Harris. I can stare at this piece endlessly. It is so powerful, yet his rendering of the smooth shapes is incredibly soothing. He treats nature with reverence and assigns it the divinity it deserves.
Obviously my sketch, done in a couple hours with a miniscule fraction of the skill of Lawren Harris is no comparison, but I really enjoyed playing with the shapes and blending the shades.
